Dear Cultural Agitators,
'It's political and much more than just a festival of entertaining work' says our Guest Editor Robert Pacitti, artistic director of SPILL - festival of performance (Barbican, National Studio, Toynbee Studios, Soho Theatre, Netil House). Read the full interview here where he talks of cultural agitators, radical performance, and subverting the Big Society. Among his top-4 tips are the National Showcase Artists - 10-selected new-makers presenting work fresh from the edge. Plus the SPILL Folk Academy - a gathering designed to stimulate debate on creating a new arts and social system (making the old one obsolete); as well as performances from Empress Stah, and Oblivia. We talk to Frances Alexander, artistic director of the Chelsea Theatre and the SACRED festival about 'yanking the artist lead-movement into the new century'. The Live Art Development Agency announce a call-out for submissions; Kenneth Anger exhibits at Sprüth Magers; the UN's International Day of Happiness throw a flashmob; and MyStreet want your films. Lead on Players! Bottoms up! RRxx
