The 5th annual festival of experimental sounds and music at Cafe Oto: "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Aldous Huxley

MUSIC vs THE UNIVERSE

Inspired by the FIVE 'Chaldean' pre-telescopic planets

ALEXANDER TUCKER (plays SATURN)

STANDARD PLANETS (plays MARS)

ASTRAL SOCIAL CLUB (plays VENUS)

TEMPERATURES (plays MERCURY)

JO THOMAS (plays JUPITER)

This year's annual Galvanised! festival explores themes of music and cosmology. Joining an age long debate about the true nature of music and its abstractness in the universe - it is subject that has been studied and thought about by musicians, academics, philosophers, composers and occultists, from antiquity to pre-history. Celebrating its fifth year of uncompromising sounds and new approaches to music, Galvanised! Festival has invited specially equipped composers and musicians who we knew would relish in exploring cosmological ideas. Taking the theme MUSIC VS THE UNIVERSE, each of the artists will perform live, having selected one of the five 'pre telescopic' or Chaldean planets: Saturn, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter.

MUSIC VS THE UNIVERSE:

ALEXANDER TUCKER A multi instrumentalist soundsmith, Tucker tears sound apart in equal amount of composition and de-composition. Combining compositional song structures, drones, layered vocals and improvisations, he creates a collection of spectral moods, eerie landscapes and fragile fractals of neu psychedelia.

STANDARD PLANETS Standard Planets are have three members - Ben Webster, Robert Tubb, Ewan Fisher - they create epic symphonies that combine elements of monolithic drone, caustic machine funk, '67 psych, carpathian hillbilly, fourth world soundscapes, bipolar sludge and tectonic krautrock. For Music Vs The Universe, STANDARD PLANETS will perform in full their own version of HOLST's MARS.

ASTRAL SOCIAL CLUB '...sonic debris cluttering and then overloading the stereo spectrum...' Dusted Magazine The ultraistic dense sounds of Neil Campbell aka ASTRAL SOCIAL CLUB is a marriage made in the icy moon of Hyperion! Mr Campbell has been a leviathan of cosmic sound composing building layer upon layer of dark subatomic musical notes, forming Einstein/Riemann bridges into new galaxies of electronic wormholes.

TEMPERATURES 'Unruly arhythmic free hypno-rock' Temperatures have been consistently hacking our subconscious with the bristling mammoth sounds of sonic primal bass, synth and drums - every time they play live, you will be left high and dry wanting more! More swirling hypnotic tempos, more fearless dirty oblivion - TEMPERATURES never disappoint.

JO THOMAS Jo Thomas is a acousmatic composer / electronic artist whose music repeatedly explores the polarities of failure and perfection working with visual image , micro-sound, glitch and pure tone. Jo creates musical feral beauty, compositions that conjure up new depths and ways of listening to sound. Listening to her music is like emerging yourself into a Philip K. Dick outer edged orbiting strange planet - darkly familiar, yet uncannily alien!
