Doctor Who Composer Delia Derbyshire Receives Posthumous Honorary PHD
Delia Derbyshire, a key member of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, has posthumously received an honorary doctorate from Conventry University. Derbyshire was born in Conventry in 1937 and later attended Cambridge University for math and music with the aid of a scholarship. It was in 1962 that she created the Doctor Who theme from a written score by Ron Grainer, though due to BBC policies and the male-dominated industry, she was not giving a writing credit on the song.

Gillian Hyland is an award winning Fine Art photographer living in London. ‘Words in Sight’ will be a self-published stunning selection of photographs and poems by the artist, spanning ten years of work. The narrative photography series has been inspired by poetry written by the artist over the past decade and will showcase for the first time the pictures with the words together, giving a deeper perspective and insight into the series.
Spike Jonze Directs Incredible Live Dance Film on The Tonight Show
Filmmaker Spike Jonze adapted his new theatrical dance piece, Changers: A Dance Story, into a short film live on The Tonight Show Wednesday. Jonze shot the entire three-and-a-half-minute short film live on Fallon’s set.
The piece stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice Through the Looking Glass) and Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta) and features choreography from Ryan Heffington.
Changers: A Dance Story is running at the La MaMa theater in New York City through September 15th. Net proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
