New voices, Turkish cinema, the apocalypse and a masonic temple: We talk East End Film Festival 2016 with Andrew Simpson

Every year we look forward to the multi-platform East End Film Festival with its rich programme of international premieres, local filmmaking, documentaries, live cross-arts events and music parties - and it's almost time for 2016's installment. 11 days of cinematic discovery kick off on the 23 June. We spoke to Head of Programming Andrew Simpson about what's in store.
 

UK Green Film Festival 2015 Shorts

This year I had the pleasure of selecting shorts for the UK Green Film Festival 2015. The festival opens Sunday 3rd May runs for a week up and down the country and closes in London on Sunday May 10th, where the winners of the festival awards including the Best Short Film Award will be announced. Run Riot chats to LIPS Choir ahead of their Coronet gig this weekend

Kat Stark and Jessica Maryon-Davies create arrangements of pop tunes ranging from girl-pop of the 60s, to iconic dance and disco tracks, ballads, rock anthems and old-school R&B numbers for 70-strong all woman choir LIPS, who they lead in rehearsal each week in London. Founded in 2009 the choir has boomed to over 70 members and sold out the Union Chapel at their last London gig in May.

Our newest film writer, Sami El-hadi, reviews Hackney-based feature My Brother The Devil written and directed by Sally El Hosaini.
