Expect the unexpected in a night of music, magic, performance and spectacle in a royal palace.
A one-off, spectacular ball to remember: a unique night of music, magic, and performances in the majestic setting of the Palace’s beautiful 18th century Orangery. The Orangery - once the setting for the most lavish of court entertainments – will be transformed on the night of 13 December into an icy winter wonderland filled with jaw-dropping magic and stunts, decadent dancing and infectious live music.
Dress to impress – Snow Queens and Jack Frosts welcome - for an unforgettable evening of Midwinter Magic. The Midwinter Ball will be a masquerade party like no other, prepare to be thrilled and excited - anything can happen under the cover of your mask! Escape artists, fire hula hooping, magic and mind-reading will test your nerves throughout the evening. Gasp at dramatic and death defying stunts from Escape Artist, The Irrepressible Mr Flay, and marvel at the incredible fire hula hooping spectacular from cult hula-hooping artiste Anna the Hulagan.
The dark fairytale continues with magic from conjuror Michael Coffey – The London Magician. Dare to dabble in mind reading and test his psychic ability as he performs some close up magic on guests, inspired by the dark deceits of Victorian séances, with the eerie setting of Kensington Palace by night as a fitting backdrop. For more thrills, take an eerie tour of the Palace by night – hear 300 years of mysterious sights, unexplained happenings and strange stories as you are guided round the darkened rooms and echoing corridors.
Music from all over the world will fill the Orangery to transform this Midwinter Masquerade into ball like none the Palace has seen in its long history. Acts will include Balkan, Klezmer, Ska, Turkish, Russian and Latin flavoured tunes from 13-piece Balkan brass ensemble the Trans-Siberian March Band, Julian Gaskell and his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists - providing everything from punk accordion to piano torch ballads, and Latin inspired guitar and violin tunes from Con Fuoco Duo. The dancing begins with The Last Tuesday Society's classical DJ Troylus Searll, ending only when the curtain falls at 11.30.
