Opponents slug it out on the chessboard and in the ring in alternating rounds of chess and boxing until there is a winner by checkmate or KO, whichever comes first.

Chessboxing is a wild mix-up of two of mankind’s oldest sporting obsessions, chess and boxing. It has been described as both nerd-fighting and the ultimate sporting challenge of the 21st Century.

This show features some stellar characters of the chessboxing scene including Sean Mooney, the man who got his dream job at Lehman Brothers the day before they went broke, then bounced back to greater heights in the City and beyond – last year becoming one of the few people alive to have scaled Mount Everest.

Also featuring will be Danny Bent, voted one of the 100 happiest people in UK by the Independent on Sunday, the author and adventurer will be familiar to viewers of BBC3’s “Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week” as one of the three hardy souls who reached the show’s final after undergoing the kind of physical and mental challenges that most people only experience on their worst nightmares. He’ll be up against a old foe, Henry Blanchard, a former City trader who quit his job last year and to launch the Ugandan Marathon, now in its second year it is already one of the biggest marathon events in Africa.

Top of the bill will be a world title fight between two international chessboxers at the top of their game. Dymer Agasaryan from Armenia, still smarting from his defeat to former IBF champion Terry Marsh in a welterweight title bout in June, will defend his lightweight belt against Georgia's Guram Guberidze. This will be a high quality con test with both contestants exhibiting a considerable prowess in both elements of the battle.

In addition the show features a talk from author and chessboxer Karl Ouch followed by a lively open-forum debate on the place of Chessboxing in a post-modern society. Plus LIVE cabaret performance, DJs and dancing.
