A disorientating, playful experience within London’s streets, exploring filmic visions & freedom in a city stuffed with cameras, where public space often turns out to be less public than advertised.
From the controversial director David Rosenberg and composers Ben and Max Ringham!
The production’s unpredictable narrative questions each individual’s liberty as a citizen in an increasingly suspicious and inquisitive society; physically shifting around the capital’s most iconic landmarks. Using a pioneering new phone app, each audience member will be offered a unique peek beneath the surface of the supposedly normal.
Over the years, Rosenberg has built himself a reputation for experimental, boundary-pushing theatre and Monument signals his move into a digital realm, channeling the narratives hidden within public spaces through the intimate medium of each audience member’s personal smart phone. This event is the first theatrical experience to premiere the Wiretapper App, which gives audience members access to conversations, interactions and inner thoughts through their personal headphones, all unnoticeable by the oblivious public. As a result audiences can tap into this mysterious narrative, following characters in close up, from a great distance, or through the crowd, picking out the voices rising from the insistent sound of the city.
Ben and Max Ringham are the acclaimed composers and sound designers behind all of shunt's shows and their innovative work with binaural sound techniques has instigated a new genre of sound based performance.
David Rosenberg has been working with Ben and Max Ringham for almost 20 years and this latest venture will be stamped with their trademark desire to disorientate.
Wiretapper is a pioneering new mobile application built to facilitate synchronized audio- based performance and events. It is currently available for Android and iPhone devices.
