Notes on Toilets is a queer(ed) performance-lecture taking place in a forgotten corner of the institution: its toilet.
Playing with the notion of restroom breaks as ‘thoughtless’ moments, this encounter explores the affective and theoretical potential of the toilet as a site of thoughtful, collective musing. What happens to ‘study’ when it shuffles away from the library and towards the restroom? How might we make sense of the politics of lingering in a space understood as purely functional?
You are invited to take up temporary sanctuary at the edge of the academic institution, where we will explore queer modes of ‘study’, questioning how and where we allow ‘knowledge’ to blossom – and proposing why this should shift.
Clara Nizard is a talker and researcher currently based in London. Recently, her work has explored queerly theoretical approaches to the commons, affective entanglements with institutions and a gentle kind of politics. Her practice curates simple encounters between 'knowledge', 'knower' and 'public'. She holds a BA (Hons) in English from McGill University.
