Alpha-ville presents a special evening exploring the relationship between electronic music and visual performance

Doors at 7pm Performance time 8pm
MURCOF + SIMON GEILFUS / ANTIVJ Live AV, London premiere

The collaboration between the Mexican electronic musician Murcof and Simon Geilfus of the visual collective AntiVJ will be presented in London for the first time. Using semi-transparent and panoramic screens, their audiovisual show creates an immersive experience in which the projected microscopic particles, geometric grids and organic elements, mutate the surrounding environment.

Murcof (Leaf Label/MX) Live music Murcof is the acclaimed project of electronic composer Fernando Corona. His music is epic, sparse electronica, founded on abstraction, glitchy details and complex electronic percussion. He draws on minimalism, postmodernism and sometimes baroque, to create music that moves the mind and heart. He has just completed a decade of music production, having released three critically acclaimed albums, two mini-albums and an EP on The Leaf label. He has performed internationally at festivals such as Sonar, Mutek and TodaysArt

Simon Geilfus (AntiVJ/FR) Live Visuals & Software Development Anti

VJ is a visual label, founded by a group of Europe-based artists whose work is focused on the use of projected light and its influence on perception. Clearly stepping away from standard set-ups and techniques, AntiVJ present live performances and installations that challenge the senses. Their creative method involves stereoscopy, holographic illusions and projection mapping, which is the practice of sculpting video content to match the surface geometry it¹s being projected on, that has been recently attracting a lot of attention.

THE FIELD (Kompakt, SE)

Live Solo Swedish Axel Willner may live in Berlin but part of his heart still resides in Cologne with Kompakt. His debut album with the label, From Here We Go Sublime as The Field, ended being a self-fulfilling prophecy, catapulting him into the German techno stratosphere with all his dancefloor cohorts admiring the emotional engagement of his tracks and the subtle ambience of his rhythms. For Alpha-ville 2012 Axel will present his second solo performance in four years. This intimate show, originally performed in a church in Oslo as part of the by:Larm Festival, will resonate with all fans of The Field¹s contributions to Kompakt¹s Pop Ambient series.

BYETONE (Raster-Noton, DE)

Live AV Olaf Bender aka Byetone is a music producer, visual artist and co-founder of the German label Raster-Noton alongside Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto). His work is known for its sharp sense of aesthetics, pioneering audiovisual works with clicks and cuts. Byetone¹s live sets are rather aiming towards the club imbued with archaic beats, feedbacks associated to guitars and extreme frequencies. He creates a hypnotic trip by combining sound and real-time visualisations which should act as light effects and abstract logos. It¹s a dynamic work of art that overcomes the traditional difficulties of performing electronic music for a live audience. Byetone creates his music digitally, using sine waves to weave a complex sonic fabric, accented by clicks and effects, taking the listener to an alternate sonic reality, where the rules of the physical world are forgotten.
