Rachael Castell
Personal Brief
I accidentally became a producer when I was 21 and have been following a rough path in production ever since. I've produced short films and promos and the East End Film Festival for 4 years (2 of which when it was Raindance East). I'm setting up a production company with my best friend and fiance Ronny Haynes, for which we are already working on 2 music promos and a documentary. In the meantime, I'm working for Adventure Pictures (Sally Potter's production company - http://www.sallypotter.com) for which I am an Associate Producer, which basically means I work on lots of projects doing lots of things.
I write and subedit for the Film Festival Magazine http://www.thefilmfestivalmagazine.co.uk. Last December-January Ronny and I travelled through America and the Caribbean visiting my friends and family and wrote a screenplay together. We are convinced that we need another holiday to do re-writes. No, it has to be a holiday... Well, we'd like a holiday...
I'm about to try and set up and band so I can get back into playing music properly and regularly. I wish I could speak French fluently. I like eating gherkins and i don't like carrots. I try and be vegetarian but I'll allow myself to eat a big fat bloody steak on occasion. I sometimes realise that I have been using the wrong word for things my whole life long because my mum is American and infiltrated my brain with words like 'snaps'. I'd like to spend
Artists on your radar, shout them out!
Billy Bragg (my profile picture is me talking to him at Cambridge Word Fest where he was talking about his book 'The Progressive Patriot') He's an East Ender through and through and I regret never getting him to EEFF when I was producing the festival. his music is heartbreaking and uplifting and intelligent and human and funny and simple and just great.
Sally Potter - she's kind of my boss. My current job is marketing her production of Carmen at ENO and creating behind the scenes footage for a mini-site that I'm also running for the production: http://www.eno.org/carmen
Julien Temple - filmmaker and martini fan. He drinks them the way Ronny and I do - the 'Bunuel way'
Chris Gollon: http://www.chrisgollon.com Ronny manages an art gallery featuring his work. His paitings make an incredible impression.
Which is your number one location – and what’s it best for?
Nevis - where my grandmother spends half of her time - in the Caribbean.
It's best for writing screenplays, drinking pina coladas, and swimming in warm clear seas.
‘Getting creative’, what’s it all about?
Fulfilling the spiritual cavern that inhabits each and every one of us and gets forgotten in life's haste.
Your Life, Right Now – what’s the soundtrack?
Fleetwood Mac... (the early years)
What is your idea of a jolly good time?
What happened the last time you were a complete disgrace?
In this city, where is your most romantic spot?
