Personal Brief
Vera is not so good at talking about herself. This kind of paragraphs always scare the hell out of her. She often has the feeling of wasting her life, but no one seems to agree. If her country of origin (Italy) were a normal place, she would now probably be a Philosophy researcher in some university. She's a Film and Music critic instead and is happy about it. At the moment she's trying to find a way to merge all three together and has a long way to go, but will make it. When in need of quick cash, she works as an art model.

Artists on your radar, shout them out!
Shinya Tsukamoto – Jap director, the twisted mind behind Tetsuo (a man grows mechanical parts out of his body), A Snake Of June (a woman liberates her pleasure thanks to a terminally ill stalker), Vital (a medicine student performs an autopsy on the body of his beloved). Unbridled romanticism. Kim Kyung-mook – A young Korean director who mixes psychological violence, live action shitting and dreamlike poetry in the aptly titled debut film Faceless Things. He looks like a little butterfly and is the sweetest boy I ever met. Sunn o))) – Extreme avant-garde metal! Five hooded guys (guitars, keyboards, voice) playing the same, extenuatingly slow pseudo-song for one hour and a half. You float in a sea of feedback and let it grow inside of you. Art Brut – Playfulness sans frontiéres. Very jolly on CD but you have to see them live: inspiring, intelligent and terribly amusing. 00|00 – This German publisher has released three art and illustration books: Romantik, Wonderland and Black Magic, White Noise: you can have a look in every Soho bookshop. They are amazing.

Which is your number one location – and what’s it best for?
To drink wine – Gordon’s Wine Bar, great selection of wines and Port drawn from the wood. To drink beer – The Dog & Duck, Porterhouse, The King’s Head, any pub serving bitters, stouts and porters. Lager is fizzy piss. To drink cocktails – The Pool and other East-side-cool places you already know. To eat Italian cuisine – Casale Franco, great from every side, especially the venison. To dance – Jaguar Shoes, 333 plus any rock n’ roll venue.

‘Getting creative’, what’s it all about?
One! – O Man! Attend! Two! – What does deep midnight’s voice contend? Three! – I slept my sleep Four! – And now I wake at dreaming’s end: Five! – The world is deep, Six! – Deeper than day can comprehend. Seven! – Deep is its woe, Eight! – Joy, deeper than heart’s agony: Nine! – Woe says: Fade! Go! Ten! – But all joy wants eternity, Eleven! – Wants deep, deep, deep eternity! Twelve! (Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra)

Your Life, Right Now – what’s the soundtrack?
Art Brut – Bang Bang Rock N’ Roll Johann Sebastian Bach (not the guy of Skid Row) – Matthaeus-Passion TV On The Radio – Return To Cookie Mountain Jarvis Cocker – Jarvis Arcade Fire – Neon Bible Susumu Yokota – Grinning Cat Joy Division – Unknown Pleasures Battles – Mirrored Arnold Schoenberg – Transfigured Night

What is your idea of a jolly good time?
Letting supposedly intellectual experiences invade the irrational side of the brain and enjoy the consequences. Troublemaking in general. Rocking like crazy at gigs, including singing out loud as if there were no tomorrow, pogo, surfing, being surfed. Becoming one flesh with people who know how to play the game. Fighting with someone who had it coming. Laughing like a child with my truly dear friends. Defying all world-weary fucks who lost their fantasy and ability to be amazed. Those epiphanic moments when I realize I’ve been giving the right advice to everyone but myself, and the consequent self-reconstruction. All the above at the same time.

What happened the last time you were a complete disgrace?
Nearly fell on the tube tracks! But my friends saved me so here I am. Other stuff, I should ask someone who can remember.

In this city, where is your most romantic spot?
Hungerford Bridge and Millennium Bridge. No, I haven’t kissed anyone there (yet). I just love them.
