Miriam Elia
Personal Brief
Miriam Elia, 24 and three quarters, is from Muswellhill, London. Miriam graduated with a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in 2006 after completing her BA in graphic design at Brighton University. Towards the end of her time at art school, she got very bored with galleries, ’wine and cheese’ private views and people that use the word ‘juxtaposition.’ In her RCA 2006 graduation catalogue she wrote:
'I am very, very, very, very deep.'
Miriam soon got sucked into the world of stand-up comedy. Armed with only her mouth and a hand-grenade, she supported acts like Richard Herring and Shazia Mirza. She entered the BBC’s new talent competition after being told about it by a friend, and won her first pilot radio show on BBC7. She might get a series if she sleeps with the right people.
Miriam is also a finalist in Channel 4’s new talent initiative with the Glasgow based ‘Comedyunit’. She won this with her short film 'Cockface'. This is a short film about an alcoholic robotic rabbit that has a shuttlecock for a nose.
Miriam was brought up by artistic middle-class bohemians, who forced her to watch black and white polish animations as a child. As a result, she has spent much of her late teens and early twenties trying to be normal. She likes hanging out at Homebase, and is campaigning for a much bigger JD Whetherspoons on Camden lock. Much of this is illustrated in her society‚ The New Normals, which is being developed into a radio show for Resonance FM.

Which is your number one location – and what’s it best for?
Probably Parkland Walk. It's a disused railway line. In the daytime, it is the best place to walk and ponder creative things. At night time, it is the best pick-up place for gay prostitutes.
‘Getting creative’, what’s it all about?
Making sure you go to the toilet, so your not full of shit.
Your Life, Right Now – what’s the soundtrack?
Take-That 'Pray.'
What is your idea of a jolly good time?
A day trip to Homebase followed by dinner at Pizza Hut with
Warren. Maybe a movie at a UGI Ciniplex.
What happened the last time you were a complete disgrace?
I drank lots of Gin at a Hendricks 'Croquet' tournament. I stole a loud-speaker and called everyone gay.
In this city, where is your most romantic spot?
Ooooh...probably Shoe Express in Wood Green.
