Kate Riedler
Personal Brief
Kate left behind sunny Australia and arrived in London in Summer 06 for a 8 week holiday... and never left. She accidently fell into the experimental theatre and live art scene and couldn't get out again. Kate has been busy doing an array of cool but often shitty jobs in dirty theatres and loving it and is now taking a BA in Technical Production at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Kate sees herself having a long career playing out the struggling artist in reality; twiddling knobs, bossing people around, mopping stages, facilitating Artists and all kinds of things; fun and not, all in the name of bloody art!
Artists on your radar, shout them out!
Helena Hunter, Sheila Ghelani, Pacitti Company, People Show, 1927, Momix, Les 7 Doigts, De la Guarda... just to name a few. These are Artists that are really onto something, making performance new and exciting. Giving us something to think about. Pushing the boundaries of theatre. Thank God someone is!
Which is your number one location – and what’s it best for?
My kitchen table. Its one of London's best kept secrets! You never know who you might find there. It serves as a meeting spot for anarchists, arty farty types, young Internationals and hungry people.
‘Getting creative’, what’s it all about?
Getting messy! Being excited and inspired, raw and diverse. Up and down. Over it. Inspired again. Put the music up loud, get the crayons out. Make a show. Living in the moment and all that business.
Your Life, Right Now – what’s the soundtrack?
Good old Triple J, you can't go wrong. We've been through some times together.
What is your idea of a jolly good time?
Summer. Friends. Food. Pimms. Traveling. Ice cream. At the Beach. In the Pub. Busting some moves on the Dance floor. Tucked up in bed with a good book.
What happened the last time you were a complete disgrace?
I don't remember (or want to)
In this city, where is your most romantic spot?
The Thames at Sunset, I'm just waiting for romance to take me there.
