In a rare trip to the UK, Jon Kabat-Zinn will teach, lead a guided meditation, and answer questions about mindfulness and your own practice.

In the hurly-burly of our lives, how many of us make time to be present in the moment?

In 1965, the 21 year old MIT grad student Jon Kabat-Zinn stumbled into a class on Zen Buddhism. What happened next transformed Jon’s understanding of his own mind and his place in the world, helping him find a sense of largeness beyond his preoccupations with his own future and relationships. For Jon, the importance of being aware is at the very heart of what makes us human. We may seek out and practice mindfulness to nurture our mental clarity, resilience and creativity, but it’s the power to nurture compassion through our awareness that truly motivates his work.

As a medical scientist, he resolved to bring the healing and transformative benefits of Mindfulness practice into the lives of patients. His Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programme is sought out from Silicon Valley to the US military, and his book Wherever You Go, There You Are was a national bestseller. In theGuardian’s words, Jon has “has arguably done more than any other individual to put Buddhism into the mainstream, not just in America, but in dozens of countries around the world.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn is the founder of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). A professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, he founded its Centre for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. He is the author of numerous books and leads workshops throughout the world on mindfulness and its applications.

Ed Halliwell is a mindfulness teacher and writer. He is author of Mindfulness: How To Live Well By Paying Attention and co-author of The Mindful Manifesto. Ed is co-director of The Mindfulness Initiative, which is supporting the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mindfulness to develop mindfulness-based policies for the UK, and has been on the Faculty of The School of Life since 2010.
