Enjoy an evening of poetry with three astonishing poets that aren’t afraid to confront and interrogate painful and darkly comic truths in their work

Join us at Bloomsbury House for the one of the first UK readings by American poet Eric Berlin, winner of the National Poetry Competition 2015, and two inventive and insightful voices in UK poetry, Jack Underwood and Emily Berry. Eric Berlin’s poem Night Errand, which won the National Poetry Competition 2015, “dramatises a cry of pain at the damage we’re capable of doing to others” and is a poem that can “somehow, magically, fill a cafeteria napkin dispenser with emotion”.

Emily Berry, Next Generation poet and winner of the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, recently guest co-edited the Summer 2016 issue of The Poetry Review. Her poetry is often playful, sometimes bleak, conversational and unsettling, and always witty. Jack Underwood, who is one of three judges for the 2016 National Poetry Competition, is a Faber New Poet and his first collection Happiness is full of “bright, beguiling poems” that approach the gamut of human emotions with a self-awareness and inventiveness. This is a unique and special evening of poetry not to be missed.
