Let's talk about (the history of) sex baby!

During the 17th and 18th centuries, attitudes to sex and sexuality changed irrevocably. A transformation in behaviour and attitudes took place, and the permissive society began; men delighted in a world of looser morality, whilst royal mistresses like Nell Gwyn became our first sexual celebrities. The private lives of both sexes came to be endlessly broadcast and debated in a new universe of mass media. Indeed, our modern sexual culture was born here. Dr Faramerz Dabhoiwala (University of Oxford) will discuss how this sea change came about, and how its repercussions are still felt today.
