As the 2014/15 RSA Student Design Awards are launched, Alastair Parvin (co-founder of WikiHouse and designer with 00) talks on the future of open design and community development.

The RSA Student Design Awards challenge emerging designers to tackle pressing social, environmental and economic issues through design thinking. The goal is to empower a generation of savvy, employable designers who understand the potential of design to benefit society, and this is incouraged by an annual Awards programme that challenges students and recent graduates to think differently about design, through tackling briefs focused on real-world problems.

Alastair Parvin is a designer with 00 (‘zero zero’), London.  He is co-founder of WikiHouse, and leads ‘A Right to Build’, an ongoing project addressing the economics of housing crisis, and the future of democratic city planning and citizen-led development of resilient housing, infrastructure, neighbourhoods and cities.
Chair: Sevra Davis is the Manager of the RSA Student Design Awards and Associate Director of Design at the RSA.
