John Lahr, senior drama critic of The New Yorker, meets to discuss his work with psychoanalyst Don Campbell including Lahr's 'Prick Up Your Ears: The Biography of Joe Orton'.
The discussion will be held at Islington Museum to coincide with the exhibition 'Malicious Damage: The life and crimes of Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell in Islington'. Artist and writer Joe Orton was arrested alongside his partner Kenneth Halliwell in 1962 for malicious damage to Islington public library books. Lahr's biography of John Lahr was adapted into the film 'Prick Up Your Ears' that charts his life and violent death.
John Lahr's fifty year career as a writer, critic, biographer, and playwright--he's the only critic ever to win a Tony Award--has been distinguished by its insight, candor, and compassion. Among the topics that will be explored are: the nature of comedy, the function of criticism, the pitfalls of biography, narcissism and celebrity, and the relationship between sexuality, aggression, and creativity.
