Join Mark Leckey and Mitch Speed for this special screening and discussion of Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, a short film that captures the poignancy and strangeness of British nightlife.

Produced in 1999, Mark Leckey’s video work Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore draws on archival footage to examine shifts in dance and street culture from the late 1960s through to the late 1980s. Moving between homage and social critique, between personal and collective memory, between ecstasy and constraint, this cult work highlights the political complexities of class and youth in twentieth-century Britain.

Following a screening of Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore, Leckey will be in conversation with artist and writer Mitch Speed discussing the work’s relation to memory, nostalgia and melancholy.

This event marks the publication of Speed’s new book on Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore and will include a signing with both Speed and Leckey.

Mark Leckey: Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore by Mitch Speed is published by Afterall Books as part of the One Work series, distributed by The MIT Press.

The event also includes an audience Q&A and a drinks reception.
