Stacy Makishi delves into the undercurrents of Moby Dick, Hitchcock and Bjork’s album Vespertine to create a striking new work where performance meets rock concert meets subversive sermon.
VesperTime tackles Makishi’s one-time wish to become a missionary and offers up a ‘vesper’, a secular evening prayer shot through with her characteristic wit.
Stacy Makishi is a transplant from Hawaii who found paradise in Dalston, London in 1993. After graduating from the University of Hawaii sheworked as a stand-up comic at the Comedy Store. But when her punchlines punched back, Stacy found herself happiest when making what New Yorkers called Performance. Stacy is now known across the UK and internationally for her bold, compassionate and humorous work.
