There's nothing new under the sun, and drag culture's no exception: before Lily Savage was even a twinkle in the milkman's eye, Victorian cross-dressing duo Fanny and Stella were lighting up the 19th century stage. But, as Neil Bartlett's new drama shows, drag life wasn't all sunshine and sequins. Set in the declining years of Ernest Boulton (Stella), his play explores the ins, outs, and run-ins with the law that beset his career.

Bartlett couldn't have chosen a better setting - Hoxton Hall features one of London's oldest musical hall interiors, all plush and red velvet. The gorgeous stage will be lit up with a story from a renowned, deeply imaginative playwright whose works include Sarrasine and A Vision Of Love Revealed In Sleep.
