Flatpack Festival offers a platform for new filmmakers and moving image creativity together with a playful and original programme. It's time to celebrate the wild frontier of film culture!
An ever growing highlight on the UK's cultural and film calendar, Flatpack Festival returns in 2011 with another roller-coaster ride along the frontiers of film. With fresh eyes, a sense of occasion and film culture popping up in an eclectic array of unexpected spaces and places, Flatpack Festival offers a platform for new filmmakers and moving image creativity together with a playful and original programme of cult classics re-imagined, silent cinema re-scored and archive material re-invented.
The festival spills across Birmingham, from shop fronts to converted warehouse spaces, art galleries and the 100 year old Electric Cinema.
2011 highlights include a tribute to pioneering Birmingham-born film archivist Iris Barry, who founded the film archive at MOMA New York, a focus on artists/filmmakers working with archive, a vintage mobile cinema, a drive-in cinema, plus live scores, animation, experimental film, docs, shorts indie movies, late night parties and more. Inventive pop-up offerings and a real sense of occasion for cinema-going pervades every inch of this joyous visual adventure.
