Drawings from renowned illustrator and artist Jessica Albarn's first book and other new work will be on display at Foyles bookshop, from 18 Jan - 1 Feb 2011.
Renowned illustrator and artist Jessica Albarn published her first book (Simply Read Books), The Boy in the Oak, in 2010 alongside a sell-out exhibition of original artworks at Liberty. The book is now being adapted into a short animated film, directed by Luke Losey, with a voiceover by Jude Law and original music by Damon Albarn, to be released in 2011.
Drawings from the book and other new work by Jessica Albarn will also be on display at Foyles bookshop, Charing Cross Road from 18 January - 1 February 2011. In the magical tale of The Boy in the Oak, Albarn tells the story of a lonely young boy and the journey he takes upon discovering an old oak tree in the garden of his family home. Draws on the grand tradition of fairytales, The Boy in the Oak demonstrates Albarn’s skill as an illustrator through her delicate and ethereal drawings and her profound connection with children and the enchanting nature of the childhood experience.
This is a story of good and bad faeries and ancient Druidic oaks: a tale where nature is powerful, demanding and ultimately just. The Boy in the Oak is a beautiful collector’s item, enlaced with opaque layers of acetate, which are interwoven with the illustrated pages.
