What is it about properly cool people that inspires such admiration? Coolness, far from being an opaque and unattainable quality, is a valuable approach to everyday life we can all cultivate. Led by Nick Southgate. According to Aristotle the correct pursuit of life is happiness. We can only be happy when we exercise each of the virtues in moderation. Thus, we must not lack courage, for this would make us cowards, nor have too much courage, which would make us foolhardy. One might summarise this approach as one of taking an appropriate response to every situation, an idea central to the notion of being cool.

Nick worked for many years in advertising but never left his background in academic philosophy. His interest in popular culture, deep satirical instincts and knowledge of philosophy, mean that if you look up the definition of cool on Wikipedia, his name is the first one cited. Naturally, for someone so cool, he is on the faculty of The School of Life.
Classes cost £30 a session, are approximately 3 hours in length and take place at the central London headquarters. They are limited to 25 people and include a mix of lecture, group activity and discussion. Optional homework is provided for those interested in further study.
Sessions take place at The School of Life. The run order for the evening is as follows, although timings are subject to change:
6.30pm - Introduction - Light buffet & drinks
7.00pm - Class commences
8.15pm - Break (times vary)
9.30pm - Class finishes
