Kate Carr and The London Sound Survey examine the relationships between sound, place and memory in a celebration of the simple act (and art) of listening.

The London Sound Survey is the project of Ian Rawes, who began collecting and compiling the historical sound of London while working at the British Library Sound Archive. Bringing together the aural environments of the city at various stages in its history and development, from present day to the past, The London Sound Survey confronts the audience with the ever changing urban soundscape, making us reflect on just how much sound shapes our sense of place.

Similarly, Kate Carr investigates the connection between our emotional relationship with our surroundings and sound. Her work has taken her across the world, and she has catalogued sound of everywhere from remote French villages to the Arctic Circle. Central to her work is a determination to document almost every sound she comes across.
