A performance from idiosyncratic Japanese sound artist Akio Suzuki, as part of Thirty Three Thirty Three’s Japan:London series.
Taking influence from fluxus, sound art and the Japanese free improvisation scene, Akio Suzuki has gained recognition for creating works that exist at the very edges of sound art. At the heart of his work is a desire to really listen, and the art to be found in the act of listening. The result is a fascination with unconventional sound sources: rocks, pieces of paper, a bucket thrown down a staircase.
For this event, he presents a form of performance that he calls ‘Conceptual Soundwork’, keeping his sound sources close at hand, while also sonically exploring the space of performance. In this instance, the performance space is a special one, a grade 2 listed building in the heart of Peckham.
The performance is a part of Japan:London, a series of concerts promoted by Thirty Three Thirty Three, bringing the best in contemporary Japanese music to London.
