A bonfire night bonanza in the heart of the capital's Royal Naval Dockyard on the Thames. The now defunct Dockyard remains resplendent and an ideal venue for fireworks, folk music and more.
BBC Folk Club 2010 and The Magpie’s Nest together with Kit and Cutter, Deptford’s proprietors of folk events, have joined forces to put together 'Bonfestival' - a celebration of Guy Fawkes through the mediums of folk, fire and sing-a-longs.
A collection of folk artists, including Firefly and Bulgaria’s Perunika Trio, will perform alongside Morris Dancing magicians the Belles of London City (see picture right) and the Blackheath Morris Men in the grounds of the 1708 Master Shipwright’s Palace, now a privately owned property closed to the public.
Festivities start at 16.00 and continue through until midnight as the music is accompanied by not only bonfires, fireworks and food but a fire-lit ritual heavy river burial procession in honour of a drowned sailor... And story-telling by the fire, dancing by the river and lectures on our naval past. All aboard!

Q: Magpies… Amazing creatures. Did you know, they are one of the few animals (and the only bird) that has been proven to be self aware in such a way that they can recognise themselves distinctly in a mirror and know that it is a reflection. However, they are known to have a particular weakness, and well, I really don't blame them. So, the question is… what is the Magpie's so-called weakness?
A: 1) Shiny Objects .2) Bison .3) Iced Cake .4) Root Beer
