Few bands have invigorated French pop over the last decade like La Femme, and Paradigmes, the third album of beautifully-curated pop from the Paris-based, Biarritz band, is no exception!

The band's music has been described as synthetic and hypnotic. It mixes elements of cold wave, punk, and yéyé, with musical influence from artists such as Sparks, Velvet Underground, and Kraftwerk.

The genre-blending pop visionaries La Femme follow the critical acclaim that greeted their current album ‘Paradigmes’ by sharing their new single ‘Trop de peine’. The track is the first song to preview the release of the ‘Paradigmes’ Extended Edition, which is out on October 15th via Disque Pointu.

With ‘Trop de peine’ (‘Too Much Pain’), La Femme blend their unpredictable, leftfield style with a deep message. Marlon Magnée and Sacha Got used a choir of children to deliver lyrics which take an innocent perspective on the imminent horrors of climate change. Set to a mix of psych-tinged electro-pop with a rocksteady rhythm, the translated lyrics include the lines: “Why at school no-one teaches us about respecting the jungle, the forest, the earth, the mountains and the oceans?... It is time now for us to change, before we all perish within fifty years.”

The accompanying ‘Trop de peine’ video brings the song’s message to life. While the kids star in cutesy, homemade fancy dress, the video’s backdrop shows the bleak and shocking reality of the impact that climate change is already having upon the world.

‘Trop de peine’ is one of four brand new tracks that feature on the ‘Paradigmes’ album. It also adds the dreamy then discordant ‘Je plane’, the dark baroque-pop of ‘Plaisir’, and the adventurous cinematic adventure of ‘Route des épices’. It is completed by new versions of some previous album highlights in the shape of remixes of ‘Nouvelle-Orléans’, a new Greek language version of ‘Va’ and an English transcribed version of ‘Disconnexion.’

The ‘Paradigmes’ deluxe edition is available to pre-order / pre-save here!

La Femme are also preparing to release their feature-length movie ‘Paradigmes: The Film’. Hosted by actors Cesar Domboy (‘Outlander’) and Romain Brau (‘The Shiny Shrimps’), the film will blend music videos from all of the album’s tracks with new fictional scenes. Sasha Got previously described the film to Gigwise as being “like a mix between Monty Python, the Phantom of the Paradise, Rocky Horror Picture Show; but with a French mood, with berets and people drinking wine and being drunk.”

La Femme will play three shows in Mexico next month, before starting their European tour in January with a headline show at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town - tickets for which are available here. They then tour North America and Canada in June 2022.
