Amanda Roocroft stars as the enigmatic Emilia Marty the cold-hearted diva whose uncanny knowledge of past events provides the key to resolving a 100-year-old lawsuit - and Pandora's box.

Amanda Roocroft's heartbreaking performance as the heroine in David Alden's 2006 staging of Janáček's Jenůfa won her the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera. Now she returns to ENO in the first revival of  Christopher Alden's Olivier Award-nominated staging of the Czech composer's penultimate opera to star as the enigmatic Emilia Marty, the cold-hearted diva whose uncanny knowledge of past events provides the key to resolving a 100-year-old lawsuit but also unlocks ancient mysteries that call into question mankind's obsessive quest for eternal life.

A co-production with the National Theatre in Prague, this striking steel-and-glass Art Deco staging is conducted by one of Britain's great conducting talents, and Janacek champion, Sir Richard Armstrong.

"A brilliant staging of some of the greatest operatic music ever written... magnificent" The Guardian

"It's been too long since I last saw an opera production as searchingly intelligent and original... This is a triumph for ENO" The Daily Telegraph
