The legendary Femi Kuti performs a special one-off show for Guy Garvey’s Meltdown.

The eldest son of legendary afrobeat originator Fela Kuti, Femi’s musical career started at 15 when he began playing saxophone in his father’s band, Egypt 80.

In 1986 he formed The Positive Force, and became a renowned artist in his own right with a distinctive, colorful style.

With six albums under his belt, he has worked and collaborated with the likes of Common, Mos Def and Jaguar Wright. After his return to Lagos in 2008, his albums Day by Day and Africa by Africa explored his roots and received two Grammy nominations.

On his most recent album, No Place for My Dream, he continues his slick musical experiments.

‘One of the true giants of African music’ (Q Magazine)

Support comes from poet, rapper, singer and songwriter Tiggs Da Author. He is equally influenced by obscure 60s documentaries, east African jazz, grime MC Dizzee Rascal and classic Motown acts.
