'Chicagoan drum-don' Makaya McCraven is back to jazz up London once again with a thaumaturges touch. Plus, support from the London-based trombonist and composer Rosie Turton.

One of the highlights of last year’s festival, a regular of the “best jazz albums of 2018” lists with his latest release Universal Beings, and the Jazz FM Awards nominee for the same category, as well as the “Live Experience of the Year", Makaya McCraven is back once again, this time in Village Underground.

From his breakthrough album In the Moment (International Anthem) to his live recording experiments such as Where We Come From, the CHICAGOxLONDON showcase with leading UK-based musicians including Joe Armon-Jones, Theon Cross, Nubya Garcia, Soweto Kinch, and Kamaal Williams, drummer/producer Makaya McCraven brings together "future-is-now drumming” with his roots in jazz and world music to form his unique and powerful sound.

A true improviser who with each performance creates a new live music experience, blurring the boundaries of jazz and electronic music, Makaya McCraven is yet to offer another phenomenal show.

London based trombonist and composer Rosie Turton will deliver a captivating opening set with her band blending the sounds of trombone, violin and electronics into a groovy musical texture fusing jazz, hip-hop and Indian classical music.
