An American in Paris encounters turbulence in his relationship as the city's literary past revitalises his take on life.
A blocked Hollywood writer (Wilson), visiting Paris, finds that immersing himself - with a vengeance - in the city's literary past revitalises him; trouble is, it also causes problems with his fiancée (McAdams). The appeal of visiting the golden age is not exclusively due to an attractive woman (Marion Cotillard), given that the Fitzgeralds, Dali, Buñuel (who gives rise to a wonderful gag) and Gertrude Stein are also around. But, Allen asks, should we really prefer the past? What about the present?
