Turbine Hall becomes a playground as the London Short Film Festival presents three programmes of short films: Experiments, Sound & Vision and Animated Images.

Experiments features work that pushes boundaries in cinematic expression, as filmmakers work with abstract images or differing formats. Sound & Vision looks at the link between music and film with a series of shorts that are not exclusively music videos, but where this marriage can inform traditions of the music promo genre. Animated Images shows us a varied selection of animation using models, drawn and computer generated in a variety of genres from drama to documentary to something more abstract. Filmmakers across the three programmes include David Leister, Jessica Sarah Rinland, Stuart Pound and Charlotte Ginsborg, as well as work from the Royal College of Art and Channel Four’s Random Acts.

Films will be played throughout the afternoon on a loop.

Biography

The London Short Film Festival is in January and has been at the forefront of UKshort film for nearly 13 years. The previous edition screened 380 shorts selected from open submission, alongside industry events, retrospectives and crossover arts events. The Festival mantra is ‘we’re not here to entertain you, we’re here to make you feel uncomfortable’ and this informs the work presented, favouring films that push boundaries of artistic expression and create dialogues for discussion, while still being work audiences will flock to. Filmmakers who have been championed and have emerged through the Festival include Andrea Arnold (Fish Tank), Peter Strickland (The Duke of Burgundy), Carol Morley (The Falling), Paul Wright (For Those In Peril), and Andrew Kotting (Swandown), and the Festival has worked with artistes and musicians such as Gazelle Twin, Teeth of the Sea, David Holmes and British Sea Power.
