Russ Tamblyn and Rita Moreno, in supporting roles, pretty much outshine the leads in West Side Story. Though much of the gangland world looks self-consciously stagey, none of that matters: this winner of ten Oscars is a dance-drama sensation. The high-adrenaline choreography to the Leonard Bernstein/Stephen Sondheim score brings this revamp of Romeo and Juliet to pulsating, unforgettable life.
