Few films summarise the feelings many have around Valentine’s Day better than True Romance and Badlands.

The classic lovers-and-killers-on-the-run combinations of black comedy, romance and crime thriller. Written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott, the film actually takes a lot of cues from Terrence Malick’s 1973 crime feature, Badlands, starring Sissy Spacey and an almost unrecognisable Martin Sheen.

So skip out on small talk and over-priced fixed menus this Valentine’s Day, and head to the cinema instead for this double bill of murder, cold blood and treachery. Not to mention a lot of great one-liners and absurd cameos.
