Spain’s foremost filmmaker, Pedro Almodóvar, discusses his influences, practice and career, as part of the BFI’s Almodóvar season.

His latest feature, Julieta, has earned significant acclaim following its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Julieta tells the story of the title character searching for her runaway daughter, exploring her own personal history in the process. The film, Almodóvar’s 20th feature, enjoys an extended run at the BFI this August.

These events all form a part of the BFI’s Almodóvar season, celebrating the work of the Spanish auteur with screenings of his films, interviews and explorations of his influences. This is a director that has forged a unique cinematic language of his own, a confluence of melodrama and screwball comedy all filtered through his vivid imagination.
