An intimate observational documentary film, 'To End a War' explores what it takes both strategically and spiritually for a nation of 50 million to move from hatred to forgiveness, from war to peace.

In 2016, as the UK voted on Brexit and the USA chose a new president, Colombia went to public referendum on a peace treaty that would end the world’s longest ever war. Killing 220,000 people and displacing nearly 7 million people, the conflict between the leftist guerrilla Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Colombian government has been ongoing since 1964. Though previous attempts at ceasefires had failed, in 2012 the Colombian president at the time – Juan Manuel Santos – and the head of the FARC – Rodrigo Londoño – sat down to carve out a peace treaty. With warring opinions on political progress, but mutual interests in democracy and peace, these landmark conversations drafted a future peace deal that went to vote via a public referendum.

The latest work from multi -award winning British director Marc Silver is an eye-opening and visually beautiful film taking the viewer inside both the presidential suite and the forest where the rebel army live, offering insight into this landmark moment in human armed history – where national trauma, political peace and democratic values all come under question.

This one-off screening in partnership with Justice Travel will be followed by a Q&A with the film's director, Marc Silver, and Andrei Gómez Suarez (Director of the Rodeemos el Diálogo (ReD) Foundation, and research associate at the University of Oxford Centre for Criminology).
