It may be the height of summer, but get your red beanie ready for this riveting doc on the life, achievements & tragedies of the explorer, environmentalist & filmmaker Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
The mere name ‘Jacques Cousteau’ conjures the imagery of the Ocean Blue, adventurers, and a red hat. Yet Liz Garbus’ ground-breaking documentary, after 4 years of research on the oceanographer and exclusive archival access, unveils the important underwater reality beneath the journey aboard the Calypso: dedication to marine life preservation, which he pioneered with the Cousteau Society.
The screenings will be preceded by the short film Footsteps on the Wind directed by Maya Sanbar and inspired by the music of Sting, in partnership with Kensington and Chelsea Art Week and KarmaBank.
About Footsteps on the Wind
It is the story of two children who lose their parents tragically and must travel to safety on a mysterious journey. While dealing with themes of child migration, bereavement and resilience, the animation is meant as a storytelling tool for all trauma and feelings of loss and hope. Entirely produced during lockdown, it is a truly international collaboration involving more than 100 professionals based in London (UK), Sao Paulo (Brazil), and New York.
