Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller about a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter London in the 1960s with shady consequences…

Here's what writer Ben Travis from Empire had to say as part of his interview with Director Edgar Wright.

Between Spaced and his five movies so far – Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Baby Driver – you know what to expect from an Edgar Wright film. Namely, plenty of laughs, lots of snappy action, an inside-out knowledge of genre, and a guaranteed good time at the movies. And while his upcoming psychological horror Last Night In Soho will see Wright once again steeping himself in genre know-how (and will surely also be a good time at the movies), it represents a considerable change of pace for the filmmaker.

This one is an unsettling time-hopping fright-fest in the vein of Don’t Look Now and Rosemary’s Baby, whose mysterious plot centres on three figures: Thomasin McKenzie’s aspiring fashion designer Eloise, Anya Taylor-Joy’s rising singer Sandy, and Matt Smith’s dapper Jack.

“It will feel very different to my other films,” Wright tells Empire in the Big-Screen Preview issue, on sale Thursday 9 July. “But I’ve always liked films which have a slow burn into something else, and a lot of my movies have that feeling. Last Night starts in a more psychological realm and then starts to get increasingly intense as it goes along. And I always like to gravitate towards making a film in genres I miss, and there’s a certain type of psychological horror film that you got more in the ‘60s and ‘70s, that have something of an operatic nature. I’m using that kind of visual grammar.”

While the film was set to arrive in the latter half of 2020, the Coronavirus pandemic has seen it shift to an October 2021 release date – but by the sounds of it, it’s going to be well worth the wait.
