A startling, clear-eyed portrait of an ageing bar hostess whose decision to marry a long-term admirer, and relinquish her party girl ways, leaves her questioning her identity.

Angélique (Angélique Litzenburger) has spent her life working as a hostess at a cabaret bar. Now 60 and bearing the scars of her play-hard lifestyle, she spends more time recounting her glory days than living them. When Michel, a regular at the bar, proposes to her, Angélique feels compelled to attempt the conventional existence that she has spent her whole life resisting. However, in doing so, she is forced to face the demons and limitations in her own personality. The film’s vérité approach (it is based on real events in Litzenburger’s life, seen through the eyes of her son, one of the film’s directors) adds a startlingly clear-eyed poignancy; neither shying away from the realities that Angélique and her adult children (played by Litzenburger’s real children) face as a result of her choices, nor condemning her for her complexities and contradictions.
