Stage Whispers
Shining light of the theatre scene, thoughtful critic and champion of boundary-pushing, serious and frivolous stage work - we are so lucky to have Lyn Gardner as our Guest Editor this week. Jeremy Goldstein talks to Lyn in our interview about the shows that have changed her life and her new children's book, Rose Campion and the Curse of the Doomstone, which is inspired in no small way by the dreamy Wilton's Music Hall.
Lyn also highlights some exciting things happening in the theatre over the coming months, including the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, which takes over the city at the end of June to present waterside theatre and al fresco choreography. All you have to do is work out which of the weird happenings are real and which are staged - no mean feat in London, I should think.
Elsewhere photographer Michael Chapman writes for us about harnessing the power of social media for his new project, and if you're tired of your day-to-day scenery then there's a job going at the illustrious Almeida for a special someone.

INTERVIEW
Q&A: Lyn Gardner Talks to Jeremy Goldstein About Falling in Love with Theatre and Her New Children's Book
Lyn Gardner is among the world’s most
influential theatre critics. Fuelled by a
seemingly endless passion and curiosity for
the form, she is to theatre at the Guardian
what the legendary critic Pauline Kael was to
film at The New Yorker Magazine. Last week I
was lucky enough to catch up with Lyn to ask
her a few questions about her life and work,
Brexit (of course) and her latest children’s
book, which is a total delight,
Rose Campion and the Curse of the Doomstone.

INTERVIEW
Beyond pressing play: Q+A with James King of Curzon Enthusiasm
Curating cinematic events that mix the
familiar with the avant garde, the cult
classic with little-known auteur works,
Enthusiasm’s end result is a compelling
argument for maintaining a breadth and depth
of knowledge- and will perhaps remind you to
turn back to that reading list. Intrigued, Run
Riot called up James King, Head of Theatrical
Sales at Curzon Artificial Eye
to hear more about the series... |

FEATURE Photographer Michael Chapman on His Project 'Show Up'
I was curious
what would
happen if I
just tweeted a
location and
show up with
my camera.
Who's going to
go to
something like
that? Is it
just going to
be a
collection of
my online
chums? So was
born
Show Up,
my latest
photography
project,
blurring the
lines between
a flash mob
and photo
project.
