Crooked Man is the acclaimed choreography by Fukushima, whose work follows a line of investigation that starts from gesture and movement. Plus, a special solo piece created and performed by Sikorski.

24 - 25 October.

“It seems to me that man has always been crooked, with values suspended and forever in flux.  I humbly present to you a crooked body, a crooked dance. It is not ballet, it is of any contemporary technique, it is not Oriental dance, it is not Brazilian dance, it is a dance without roots.”  Eduardo Fukushima on Crooked Man

Eduardo Fukushima is a Brazilian dancer and choreographer with mixed Italian and Japanese ancestry. He trained with many of Brazil’s leading figures in dance before creating his first piece, Exit, in 2004.  Eduardo’s work follows a line of investigation that starts from gesture and movement, and his award-winning solo works have been performed across South America and Europe.

Crooked Man was created following a year-long mentorship with Cloud Gate Dance founder Lin Hwai-min as part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. In this performance, Eduardo is accompanied by live electronic music created especially to accompany the movement by Tom Monteiro. The evening also includes a special solo created and performed by Eleanor Sikorski.

“Fukushima’s mesmerisingly odd solo dance performance…will not be forgotten in a hurry.”  Financial Times
