A season of performances, workshops, events and talks as well as critical discussion and improvisation.

This Autumn, Chisenhale Dance Space celebrates 30 years of boundary-pushing performance via The Big 30.

The anniversary looks curiously at the past and boldly towards the future, highlighting Chisenhale Dance Space's explorative history while showcasing exciting new artists at this influential East London venue.

The Big 30 launches on Thursday September 19 with a Dance Art Foundation workshop led by Louise Klarnett, followed by Cake - A special evening launch party performance from Eleanor Sikorski.

Michael Clark’s Hail The New Puritan gets a rare screening in full on Saturday September 21 at 7pm. Filmed by Charles Atlas in Chisenhale's main studio in 1987, the film will be shown exactly where it was made, complete with the original brick wall and maple floor. Hail The New Puritan will be introduced by Ellen van Schuylenburch, a founder member of the Michael Clark Company.

An action-packed programme takes place in the weeks that follow. Highlights include a triple bill from Will Dickie, Lisa May Thomas and Dan Watson on Thursday September 26 under the heading Dance and the Homemade Commissioned Artists. Watson's Jacket Dance is an irreverent duet about dancing ridiculously, not as joke or ironic comment but curiously and joyfully while Will Dickie performs the reflective and powerful Memories of Suburbia; his first solo work.

On the same bill, Lisa May Thomas presents Shipwrecked; a film featuring performance and pervasive objects Sunday September 29 offers Community Day, a family day out featuring The Flying Project, a family-friendly workshop and performance with Emelie Wångstedt and Helena Webb, plus dance films, chat and an 80s teatime disco.

Dance + Politics: Performance & Discussion comes courtesy of dancers and activists Alexandrina Hemsley and Jamila Johnson-Small on Saturday October 5 with O - A duet about being black, mixed and female addressing awkward and uncomfortable everyday experiences.

Following the performance there will be a discussion titled Feminism and Dance - have things improved?, chaired by Jacky Lansley with guest speakers.

The Big 30 includes contributions from members of X6, the seminal artist collective who started Chisenhale Dance Space, pioneering the British New Dance movement.

Events include Now & Then – X6 & Friends: A Round Table discussion on October 20th when Jacky Lansley, Fergus Early, Mary Prestidge and Emilyn Claid discuss topics relevant to arts and politics, now and then.

On October 31, there's another Dance and the Homemade triple bill with brave new work from Neil Callaghan, Rachel Champion and Tim Spooner.

Champion presents Roses and Narcissus, an evolving journey loosely based around the darker side of fairytales.

A Certain Shaft of Light from Neil Callaghan examines loneliness and solitude whilst Subliming Furiously from Tim Spooner delivers a story cast in the mouth and respiratory system and released into the studio.

On Saturday November 9, Mary Prestidge presents Disturbing The Dust at 3pm, followed by An Archive Performance at 7pm from Jacky Lansley & Fergus Early.

There are more family activities on Saturday November 16 with Kids Class Day and the Bellyflop team round off The Big 30 events on November 23 with Cue Positions: A Symposium By Bellyflop.
