Integrating aspects of live concert, immersive theatre performance, dance and digital media “Arvoles Lloran por Lluvia” is a unique feature-length production.

Based on a suite of medieval Sephardic folk ballads recently released by ten-piece electro-acoustic chamber ensemble Sefiroth (who will perform live), the piece weaves the intensely poetic Ladino lyrics of the songs into an epic narrative, telling ancient but still poignant stories of love, loss, yearning, migration and defiance.

Drawing upon the ancient mythology and symbolism of the Kabbalist tree of life, five dancers choreographed by Katarzyna Witek represent both the characters in the songs and the manifestations of the divine according to Sephardic lore.

Digital artists SDNA and production designer Maya Angeli present an innovative visual design using film projection and interactive lighting that brings an immersive quality to the performance space.
