#TouchingTheVoid

'A story about humanity on the very limits of its endurance and the things we might be capable of...' says our Guest Editor, theatre Director Tom Morris OBE.

Tom is describing his latest production, Touching The Void, an adaptation of the compelling novel (it's sold over a million copies) by mountaineer Joe Simpson, later made into a BAFTA award winning film.

It's a gripping story. Two guys are climbing a mountain when they hit trouble. One of them has to cut the rope to survive, leaving the other (Joe) left to die in a crevasse. That's just the start. It's an incredible true life story of survival against all odds.

Bringing the story alive at The Duke of York's Theatre is Tom's challenge. We're in safe hands. Tom (co-director, War Horse) is the former artistic director of the Battersea Arts Centre, and is now Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic and Associate Director at the National Theatre. He's also the younger brother of satirist film maker Chris Morris.

In his Run-Riot interview Tom talks to writer Adam Bloodworth about the essence of the production, the psychology of survival, and the Bristol Old Vic.
