The Future's Eye

Word. Each day, week, month - good things keep adding to the momentum of the positively shifting culture of our era. Goodbye Gove. Hello Morning Gloryville at Oval Space - the mid-week breakfast rave. I mean, really - hello!

We say a big Hello to Book Slam whose next event at York Hall features a stellar line-up of bookish talent - subversive and exciting wordsmiths - yes, stand up for Irvine Welsh, Bill Hillman, Viv Albertine, Doc Brown, and Kate Tempest.

Our Wild Card of the week goes to The Future. There's more to them than meets the eye. They're a savvy global movement campaigning on some of the biggest issues of today (local and global) using creative methods of direct action that are either hauntingly sublime or just outright disruptive. Being true zeitgeist surfers, their current action targets the expansion of London City Airport - taking place at 11am, Monday 21 July. If you're curious, you're invited to join them - read more here.

In our Magazine section you'll find details of a 60-minute masterclass in Critical Writing by acclaimed pro' Ben Walters. It's a brilliant read produced the the Guardian and includes input from Maddy Costa, Lyn Gardner, Donald Hutera, Jessica Winter, Steve Bennet and Mark Cousins.

In keeping with ballsy actions for a better world - we've got a soft desktop action for you: simply sign the Greenpeace petition telling LEGO to cut its ties with Shell. Surely this is the moral equivalent to junk food advertising during kids TV - which we believe is banned. Corporate fail. Again. For those of you wanting better policies on climate change - join the mighty international campaigners Avaaz on the streets of London. They're co-ordinating a massive global protest at various cities around the world - hold the date: Sunday 21 September. Read more here.

As for the best of the rest - here's our quick fire round: Homework / What is the Role of the 21st Century Designer / Feminist Film Wiki-a-thon / Imogen Heap / Wearable Wednesday / A13 Green 2014 / Camden Beach Opening Party / Velvet Tongue / Print Club / Lost Lectures / Poetry Slam Finale / and Nick Cave!

Where can I find out more about what's going on? You're not a member of Run-Riot? What are you waiting for - sign up to the free newsletter and we'll share our top tips with you. Easy.

Have a revolutionary week dear Players! Bottoms up! RRxx
