Borders and Other Beasts

Forget the Blair Witch and the Babadook. Is there anything more terrifying than Brexit Britain? This Halloween week our Guest Editor is Luca Silvestrini, choreographer and founder of Protein Dance, who talks eloquently and with great generosity about dance, identity and his new show Border Tales over in our interview with him here. He also picks some wonderful culture shocks happening around town that will serve as the perfect balm for your spooked soul.

We also talk to Kalle Nio, who in seasonally-appropriate fashion uses illusions and tricks onstage to explore secrets and desires in his new piece for the London International Mime Festival, Lähtö (Departure). There's also a great introduction to filmmaker and leading figure of the Czech New Wave, Jan Němec, who was exiled for exposing communist brutality and has his first UK retrospective as part of the Made in Prague Festival following his death last year. Anna Bogutskaya continues the cinematic theme with her piece on the development of Underwire Festival - the UK's only festival celebrating, supporting and shining a much-needed light on women in film.

For more culture gems and competitions - browse our Offers page. As for the best of the rest - rummage through our genre-bending pages where you'll find plenty of haut happenings.

Here's to wishing you a treat of a week dear Players! Remember - all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. RR xx
