Beyond The Road

'life is a remix' says our Guest Editor, musician and label founder James Lavelle.

You may know James from the legendary music project UNKLE, or the iconic record label Mo Wax, or his curating projects for the Southbank Centre's Meltdown, or with Stanley Kubrick at Somerset House. The man is the epitome of prolific creativity.

Lavelle's latest project is a collaboration with Colin Nightingale and Stephen Dobbie from acclaimed experiential theatre company Punchdrunk. Together they've created 'Beyond The Road', a ground-breaking, fully immersive exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery involving a team of leading creatives. Expect to see works from multi-Oscar winning director and producer Alfonso Cuaron (Roma), perfume designer Azzi Glasser, artist and taxidermist Polly Morgan, and visual designer and multimedia artist Tupac Martirto to name just a few.

But what is Beyond The Road about? We caught up with James Lavelle to find out. Read the interview here.

In our Magazine section, writer and broadcaster Nicola Christie writes about The Little Orchestra and their concert of Handel's Messiah at Porchester Hall (7 & 8 June). Little Bulb Theatre's Clare Beresford tells us about their upcoming show 'The Future' which tackles all things A.I. South London opens a new purpose built arts venue, Streatham Space Project - Jayson Mansaray tells us all about it. Lastly but not least, Gareth and Anthony host their latest edition of The Independent Music Podcast - another world class belter!
