In case you haven't had your fill of Jubilee fun, here's one more for the road...
The Queen—gawd bless 'er—was born in 1926, slap bang in the middle of Prohibition. The average gangster probably didn't give too much thought to the British Royal Family, but if he ran a half-respectable speakeasy his gin would have been smuggled in from England and the Brits of the time took royal pageantry very seriously.
George V's silver jubilee of 1935 (OK, a bit after Prohibition) was an occasion for mass celebration, and bartenders across the land created special Jubilee cocktails (see below) to mark the occasion. At the CC's vintage indoor street party they'll be offering a selection of these royalist refreshments, patriotic punches and monarchical moonshines. Music will come from those traumatised troubadours of the trenches, Albert Ball's Flying Aces, veterans of the Great War who were so moved by their experiences that they now dedicate themselves to spreading a message of universal peace through the medium of white-hot jazz, plus our DJ MC Fruity. There will be bunting and Coronation Chicken—plus a chance to be photographed with the UK's official Kate Middleton lookalike Gabriella Douglas.
