Woman SRSLY Fundraiser

Woman SRSLY - the community-based collective led by a diverse team of female artists need your help. Help them by donating, so they can continue to make a new project happen over 2019 and combat issues of gender disadvantage through performance and support.

Here's what Woman SRSLY have to say:

Woman SRSLY is an East London, community-based collective led by a diverse team of female artists - created in reaction to sexual discrimination and male dominance in the performing arts industry and the wider socio-political context.

Our aim is to combat issues of gender disadvantage by:

● Creating a performance platform and support network for female identifying and socialised female artists (especially from under-represented women).

● Drawing on our experience as a female, artist-led company but also listening to feedback from other female artists to further our work.

● Continuing to support artists, after they have performed in the platform, by opening up debate, creating a network of collaborative artists and creating connections between the artists and other venues.'

Mentoring younger BAME women in their transition into the professional world.

● Establishing a space that can acknowledge female desire and emancipation, instead of merely adhering to stereotypes of male expectation, creating a space where female performers and makers can feel a sense of autonomy over how their bodies are represented.

● Providing a space where artists are able to support each other, challenge norms, take credit, and take risks in a safe environment.

Past activities have included:

● Running six, self-funded, sold out performance platforms with 31 performance companies at CentrE17 / Guest Projects / The Yard / V&A Museum.

● Running one sold out platform at The Yard funded by Mayor of London Groundwork Fund.

● Expanding the gender debate through interviews in i-D Magazine/ It’s Nice That / London Live etc.

● Plus, workshops / debates / mentoring for BAME artists and creating new opportunities including new commissions / performances / collaborations for female artists.

Woman SRSLY’s beneficiaries are female-identified and socialised female artists: (Cis-females, Trans women and non-binary and gender queer artists who have been socialised female).

The funds you give will be essential contributions towards making a new project happen over 2019 in London.  Woman SRSLY will be working to combat sexual discrimination and male dominance in the performing arts industry (including dance, theatre, live art, music, cabaret & film) by running a series of performance platforms (at The Yard Theatre & The Place) to support female identified and socialised female artists, as well as additional events, workshops, podcasts and a panel discussion engaging further with the public on these issues. The themes of these events will be about bringing the community together in a celebration of artists; engaging those who find it hard to find support and take part in the arts.
